Last month i had the lovely opportunity of attending a dinner at Iridescence, where we got a preview of all the delectable items on their upcoming Fall menu!
Not only is the food at Iridescence excellent (with equally exquisite service), but you’re also getting THE BEST view of Detroit atop the 16th floor of Motor City Casino! If you’ve never been, definitely make a reservation for Detroit Restuarant Week!

Before each course, Chef Don (pictured above) & Chef Benjamin would give us an introduction to the ingredients, inspiration, and preparation behind each dish.
I’m not gonna lie….it was pretty awesome! : )

Crème Fraîche, Vanilla Bean, Strawberries
A nice starter dish with a deconstructed Stawberry Pie (fresh strawberries, airy crème fraîche, and crispy wedges of phyllo-like dough), along with a Strawberry Sorbet!

Yellow Fin Tuna Carpaccio (chili vinegar, mango coulis, rice crisp, kaffir lime foam)
Light. Refreshing. Perfect. These are a few words that come to mind when i think back on this lovely dish! I’ll have to say, i was a bit hesitant to try carpaccio (aka raw fish). But my fears subsided after Chef Don explained that the Tuna is actually semi-cured with vinegar. Needless to say, i’d love to order this dish again!

Croque Madam (speck and Gruyere served in between a mini muffin) verses
DY Spindini (buffalo mozzarella and lemon butter)
This mini Egg McMuffin (complete with a tiny suny-side up egg on top) was delightful and delicious - definitely my favorite! The Spindini (pictured in the background) on the other hand, didn’t win me over. It wasn’t bad, but not as memorable as the Croque Madam!

Coquillie Saint Jaques (bay scallop and lobster creme)
Loved this! The scallop was perfectly cooked, a great portion, and the lobster creme was fantastic - this is coming from someone who doesn’t care for lobster..(gasp)..!

Coquillie Saint Jaques (potato and enoki mushroom ravioli)
I’m just gonna say it: I DON’T like Mushrooms! I know, i know…but, i’ve given them a try and I just don’t care for their taste or texture. Which would explain why this was my least favorite dish. BUT, besides the enoki mushrooms, the ravioli dough was tasty!

Tribute to the Cheeseburger (sweet potato, tomato nage, romaine, sauce mornay)
Amazing! Although i didn’t get the whole ‘cheeseburger’ reference (maybe it was a deconstructed version of it), the Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection and was accompanied by a mouth-watering sauce of sweet potato, tomato, & mornay!

Once our meal came to a close, the entire cooking staff was introduced and we were able to thank them for an enjoyable, unforgettable and excellent meal!
Wait a minute, what about dessert (some of you may be thinking)? Well, we got a whole table full of Pastry Chef Nash’s AMAZING desserts, ranging from a magnificent Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée to Dark Chocolate Cake! The only problem, i was so mesmerized by the dessert that i forgot to photograph it, and by the time i remembered, it was all gone!
Big shout-out to Annette for organizing the event - thank you!
