Hi Sydney,
First off, welcome to Detroit! Secondly, here are a couple suggestions of places to visit where you won’t feel uncomfortable dining solo:
Russell Street Deli over in Eastern Market is a Detroit staple for great breakfast or a quick lunch (think soup & sandwich). It’s always packed with people with a quasi-communal dining area, so you won’t feel uncomfortable dining alone as you’ll probably be seated at a table with others.
Supino Pizza (also located in Eastern Market) is THE BEST place around Detroit to get tasty New York style pizza! If you’re lucky, you can snag a seat by the window (a perfect seat for one or two people) or eat at the large communal table and strike up a convo with your fellow diners.
Motz Hamburgers is located in the industrial alleys of SW Detroit, in an area known as Delray. This family owned slider joint has been in business for 50+ years, and with seating around the counter you’ll feel right at home at this Mom & Pop shop!
Seva over in midtown has a great chill bar area where you can order some of their famous $1, $2 and $3 Happy Hour items. Please note: order the General Tso’s Cauliflower dish, it’s fantastic!!!
Grand Trunk Pub has a Cheers-type of feel where everyone feels right at home at this local fav. Good food, good drinks, and nice atmosphere!
Lemme know how it goes! : )
